How to Store Essential Oil of Frankincense

Correct storage of frankincense oil is the same as for the other essential oils. It is important to avoid subjecting them to extreme temperatures or repeated changes of temperature.
Essential oils should always be packaged in dark colored glass bottles as this filters out the sun's ultraviolet light. Dark amber was the favored color until recently but now dark shades of blue, green and violet have also become popular.
Essential oils should always be kept out of direct sunlight in order to avoid deterioration due to continually heating up and cooling down. Store them in a cool, dark place out of reach of children.
Some oils can be stored in the fridge. This is not necessary with frankincense. If stored in the fridge, oils may solidify so they should be allowed to warm up before use. Holding them in the hand is sufficient.
Carrier oils are best stored in the fridge in summer as they can be vulnerable. Take them out of the fridge twelve hours before use to adjust to room temperature and to dissolve any fatty particles. Shake the bottle to make sure any fatty particles have disappeared before use.
Some people prefer to store oils together in an aromatherapy box. Again, if choosing to do this, make sure the box is stored in a cool, dark place.
Essential oils are flammable so never leave them near cookers, fires, candles or any kind of flame.
Never decant undiluted essential oils into plastic bottles as they will eat into and melt the plastic.

  1. I was actually looking for an oil sprayer, but this turned out to be a really good item. NO measuring spoon to work with, if I want 1 Tbsp. or just 1/2 tsp the top measure the right amount and I pour it out. I'm done. oil bottle
