Slippery elm is a tree that grows in North America. It can grow over fifty feet tall. The inner bark , after being dried and made into a powder, is used for medicinal purposes as it helps with many conditions. It contains mucilage, which turns into a gel when mixed with water. This provides a coating for the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines. It also stimulates mucous secretions in the intestines which can help against stomach ulcers and excess acidity. I used slippery elm myself when I had problems with an acid stomach and found it to be very helpful.
